Boccia Team Met with Young People
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Disabled Boccia Team came together with students at Izmir University of Economics (IUE). Successful athletes played a friendly match with IUE students as part of the ‘Disability and Society’ course. In the sign language awareness workshop with Melek Uslular, the importance of introducing sign language and popularizing it in primary, secondary and higher education was emphasized. Young people who had the opportunity to practice sign language showed great interest in the workshop.
DISABILITY AWARENESS WEEK OBSERVED
All programs organized within the scope of ‘Disability Awareness Week’ activities were held in cooperation with IUE Disability Support Center and the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation. Before the match, Coach Feride Çetin gave information about the boccia branch, the classification of athletes and the types of disabilities that can participate in boccia. Pointing out that the activities were very useful for the students, Burcu Ece Korkmaz, Lecturer at IUE Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, said, “We would like to thank the boccia team, coach Feride Çetin, Turkish sign language trainer Melek Uslular, Engelsizmir Branch Manager Emine Koç, Engelsizmir Education Supervisor Berna Yurdusev and Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Disabled Sports Coordinator Fatih Palancı for their support.”
