‘Great pride in ‘sailing’

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Sailing Team left its mark on the 13th Jimmy Key Universail Sailing Regatta with the participation of 27 teams from 14 universities. In the competition held in Urla, IUE students came out on top in the 'IRC A1' and 'Support 4' categories and also ranked first in the general ranking. IUE, which became the Izmir regional champion with its men's basketball and women's volleyball teams this year, made its mark in sports by carrying its success to sailing. The IUE Sailing Team, consisting of a total of 16 people, including 15 students from different departments and one graduate, reaped the rewards of their devoted and regular training throughout the year.

WE SHOWED THE DIFFERENCE

IUE Sports Coordinator Murat Palalı said that they, as a university, had an unforgettable period in sports. Expressing that they showed the difference of Izmir University of Economics by reaching the cup in many branches, Palalı said, “Health, Culture and Sports Department, which continues its activities within the Dean of Students' Office, supported all student clubs and made significant contributions to the sailing team throughout the year. We also have national athletes in our team. In addition, the students in our team were given comprehensive training on sailing by our University. We have continued trainings for a long time within a certain plan and program. We united as a team and there was a very good atmosphere of friendship. All this brought us success. First we became regional champions in basketball and then in volleyball, and we came third in football. The addition of sailing to these achievements suits our University very well. Students are the owners of this success. I congratulate them wholeheartedly and thank them for the pride they have brought to the University.”
